Dragon Fruit are also known with some names as Dragon Pearl Fruit, Pitaya, Pitahaya, Castus Fruit. There are 2 varieties Dragon Fruit in Vietnam as White Dragon Fruit (white flesh) and Red Dragon Fruit (red flesh).
In Vietnam, it has been grown mostly in Binh Thuan, Tien Giang, Long An, Khanh Hoa and other provinces. The Dragon Fruit is actually part of the cactus family, which makes sense given its spiky outer layer.

It comes from a plant that is like a climbing vine growing best in dry areas.
It yields large and ornate white flowers that produce a sweet fragrance when in bloom, but you might miss that special effect since the flowers bloom for only one night, pollinated by bats and moths; however, the plant may have up to 6 fruit-producing cycles annually.

Dragon Fruit is usually oval elliptical or pear-shped and contains a sweet, sometimes sour taste.
The inside is typically white or red with little seeds that look like sesame seeds with a similar crunch as the seeas found in a kiwi.
Dragon Fruit tastes like a mix between a pear and a kiwi and for other like kiwi and melon, has sweet flavor.
There is a slight difference in taste of the different varieties of Dragon Fruits.
